KUCHING (June 15): Five new Covid-19 infection clusters have been declared in Sarawak today by the Health Department, including two involving workplaces here and in Subis.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the five clusters are the Jalan Daya Cluster and Kampung Muara Tebas Cluster here , Dulang Cluster in Subis, Nanga Strass Cluster in Meradong and Nanga Sejugam Cluster in Julau.
It said in a statement that the Jalan Daya Cluster, which has 27 cases so far, was a result of social movement and close contact among the workers of a seafood processing factory in Pending industrial area here.
“Those who are found to be positive are the occupants at the workers’ quarters located at Jalan Daya in Kuching,” it said.
SDMC said a total of 153 people and 76 of them were still awaiting laboratory results. All positive cases were admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) here.
The Kampung Muara Tebas Cluster is a community cluster involving several families in the village, which also was a result of social movement and close contact with each other.
Seventeen people screened whereby 14 were found positive and were admitted to SGH and PKRC in Kuching.
Dulang Cluster is another workplace cluster involving an oil palm plantation under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Suai area, Subis. It was also a result of social interaction and close contact among the farm workers.
A total of 289 individuals were screened where 39 were found positive and one still awaiting results. All positive cases were admitted at the Miri Hospital, Bintulu Hospital and PKRC in Miri and Bintulu.
The Nanga Strass Cluster is a community cluster involving a longhouse under EMCO in Nanga Strass area, Meradong, stemming from social interaction and close contact among the residents.
A total of 72 individuals were screened where 29 were positive and three are still awaiting results. All positive cases were admitted to Sarikei Hospital and PKRC in Sarikei.
The Nanga Sejugam Cluster is another longhouse cluster due to social interaction and close contact among its residents.
A total of 148 individuals were screened where 64 were positive. All of positive cases were admitted to Sarikei Hospital and PKRC in Sarikei.
Meanwhile, SDMC said that the State Health Department has declared the end of two clusters as they did not record any new cases in the last 28 days.
They are the Long Jegan Cluster in Beluru and Jalan Sultan Tengah Cluster in Kuching.
Long Jegan Cluster, which was declared on May 1, involved a primary school with the index case a 25-year-old teacher. It had recorded a cumulative total of 94 positive cases out of 194 individuals screened.
Jalan Sultan Tengah Cluster, which was declared on May 17, was a workplace cluster involving resort workers. A total of 27 individuals were screened of which six were found positive.
The number of clusters that are still active in the state is 86 clusters, said SDMC further.
“A total of 13 clusters have recorded 172 new cases for the day, while 73 clusters did not record any,” it said.
