Cops ordered to file affidavits on efforts to find Indira Gandhi’s daughter since 2014

Indira Gandhi with INGAT chairman Arun Dorasamy, who says court order today is proof police had been ‘reckless’ by failing to comply with the 2014 court order.

PETALING JAYA: The Ipoh High Court today ordered the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to submit an exhaustive affidavit listing all the steps taken by the police to arrest kindergarten teacher M Indira Gandhi’s ex-husband, Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, and to find their youngest daughter Prasana Diksa within the next three weeks.

Indira’s lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan said Ipoh High Court judge Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet has ordered the AGC, representing the police, to file the affidavit detailing all action taken since May 30, 2014.

Prasana was taken by Muhammad Riduan Abdullah before he converted to Islam in 2009, when she was just 11 months old.

In 2014, the High Court had cited Riduan for contempt of a 2010 custody order. The court also ordered for his arrest unless Prasana was returned by June 6 of the same year.

The court also told police to track down Prasana, with a direct order for the police to update Indira’s lawyers or the court on the case developments once a month until her daughter was found.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Nagarajan said: “The court order clearly stated that the police must on the first week of every month file an affidavit (to update Indira on the case).

“However, since May 30, 2014 police have completely failed to file any affidavit to the court and neither have they served Indira’s lawyers.

“Since the date or the order exactly 79 affidavits have not been affirmed by the police. This means police owe Ms Indira a total of 79 affidavits,” he added.

Indira Gandhi Action Team (INGAT) chairman Arun Dorasamy said the court order today was proof that the police had been “reckless” by failing to comply with the 2014 court order.

He added that Indira will be filing contempt proceedings against the police in January.
