Cops arrest one of two suspects in gold necklace robbery case in Kuching

KUCHING (June 23): Police have arrested one of the two male suspects who allegedly robbed a female victim of her gold necklace at Taman Matang Bersinar, Jalan Matang here at around 10.45am yesterday.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the arrest was made during a raid by the district’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) together with the CID D9 unit from the Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters at a house in Taman Malihah, Jalan Matang here at around 6pm on the same day of the robbery.

“During the raid, police also recovered the gold necklace, estimated to be worth RM3,500 which was identified to be the victim’s,” he said in a statement today.

Besides the male suspect, police also arrested a 33-year-old female who was at the house during the raid to assist in the investigation.

It was later revealed that the male suspect has four past criminal records for robbery and drug abuse, while the female suspect do not have any criminal record. Both of them will however undergo a drug test.

“During interrogation, the male suspect admitted to police that he and his accomplice robbed the victim to make money for their daily expenses,” said Lim.

He added that police are currently tracking down the whereabouts of the second male suspect.

Also seized by the police were the motorcycle and helmet that was believed to have been used by the suspect during the robbery.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery.

Meanwhile, the victim did not sustain any injuries during the robbery which took place at her house compound.
