2,474 new Covid-19 infections in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 2,474 new Covid-19 infections on Monday.

No new cluster was reported.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said Kota Kinabalu continued to register the most cases with 671 infections, followed by Penampang 204, Tawau 196, Sandakan 185, Papar 181, Tuaran 176, Lahad Datu 132 and Keningau 113.

Beaufort recorded 68 cases, Beluran 64, Kota Belud 59, Putatan 56, Kota Marudu 46, Ranau 44, Kudat 44, Tongod 38, Nabawan 34, Kalabakan 29, Tenom 26, Sipitang 21, Kunak 18, Tambunan 17, Kinabatangan 15, Telupid 15, Pitas 11, Semporna 8, and Kuala Penyu 3.

Masidi, who is Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson, said 1,609 cases (65 per cent) were detected through close contact screenings, 557 cases (22.5 per cent) from symptomatic screenings and 140 cases (5.7 per cent) from clusters.

He added that 1,587 of the new Covid-19 patients fell under Category 2, 823 under Category 1, 10 under Category 3 and eight under Category 5.

Of the total registered cases on Monday, 311 or 12.6 per cent were backlogs over five days, 254 cases (10.7 per cent) between four and five days and 1,102 cases (44.5 per cent) were registered after two to three days.

On another note, Masidi said 30.1 per cent of the adult population in Sabah have completed two doses of vaccine and 52.4 per cent have taken their first jab as of Aug 22.
