Quite a busy scene at the PPV in Medan Hotel.
SIBU (July 11): More younger individuals are now stepping forward to be vaccinated against Covid-19, which KPJ Sibu’s medical director Dr Wong Chya Wei says is vital to achieve herd immunity faster.
He said they were now reaching out to younger individuals as the elderly groups had been vaccinated.
Dr Wong told the press this at the one-day mobile vaccination programme at Medan Hotel here yesterday.
The programme was jointly organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch and KPJ Specialist Medical Centre as its corporate social responsibility (CSR) project with support from Ministry of Health.
“Most of those coming for the vaccination today (yesterday) are young people in their 20s and 30s.
“With this, hopefully, we can reach herd immunity here faster,” he said.
He said about 120 people were vaccinated within an hour yesterday, which he described as an achievement.
He, however, did not deny there was a minor bottleneck.
“The check-up took a little bit of time (where recipients need to update information on their handphone) so that MySejahtera will notify them where and when to go for the second dose.
“But so far, all went very smoothly,” Dr Wong said.
SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong was among those who came to the centre.
