KOTA KINABALU: Yatim Zainal Abidin is focused on hitting his peak form at the right time for the Challenge Family’s The Championship race in Samorin, Slovakia next month.

The veteran triathlete, while satisfied with his current training progress, said he has now moved on to doing brick workouts as he looks forward to the iconic race scheduled for August 27-29.

According to him, he had started brick session earlier this week, in which he did two disciplines back to back with no rest.

“Brick session is an important part of triathlon training. I’ve started doing swim to bike session for one day and followed by bike to running session the following day.

“It is how it will be for me for now…I want to better manage my transition from swimming to cycling and then running.

“At the end of the month, I will combine all three disciplines (simulation race) at Tanjung Aru and hopefully achieve the desired result.

“I am working hard so that I will be at my peak form for the race,” said Yatim, 45, when contacted on Wednesday.

For the record, Yatim had qualified for The Championship back in 2019 but due to the global pandemic, the race has been postponed several times with the organiser finally settling for August 27-29 this year.

Meanwhile, Yatim said he is waiting for approval from the relevant authorities regarding his travel arrangement to go overseas.

“I hope I have met their requirement so that I can travel for the championship,” said Yatim who revealed he had also completed his Covid-19 vaccinations.
