Woman who allegedly bludgeoned 2 cats over poo charged with animal abuse

BUTTERWORTH: A woman who allegedly beat a pregnant cat and a kitten to death with a metal rod outside her flat in Seberang Jaya was charged with animal cruelty at the Sessions Court here today.

Real estate broker Hah Choy Kheng, 51, pleaded not guilty to the charge of striking two cats with a 75cm metal road at the playground near Blok B1, Pintas Kalui in Seberang Jaya on Dec 29, 2020 at 1.20 pm.

The charge, under Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 for cruelly beating, kicking and torturing animals, carries a fine of up to RM100,000 and/or three years’ jail upon conviction.

Veterinary Services Department prosecuting officer Roziman Awang Tahrin asked the court to impose a RM10,000 bail, which the court allowed.

The two cats said to have been attacked.

Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus set March 4 for mention. Shamsher Singh Thind appeared for the accused.

On Dec 30, a woman was reported to have hurt a group of cats after they left poo on her doorstep of her flat.
