KUCHING (June 25): A vehicle spare parts workshop in Kuching is one of two new Covid-19 workplace clusters declared today, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Dubbed the Jalan Renggas Cluster, a total of nine positive cases were detected from the cluster after 26 people were screened, with 11 others testing negative and six still pending laboratory results.

All those who tested positive were admitted to Kuching district quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC).

SDMC said that the other cluster, dubbed the Jalan Kidurong Lima Cluster, involves an engineering company’s workers quarters in Bintulu.

The committee said that the infection spread via social interaction and close contact among the employees and residents there.

“A total of 116 people were screened with 20 testing positive and 96 still awaiting laboratory results,” SDMC said, adding that all positive cases were admitted to Bintulu Hospital and the Bintulu district PKRC.

Meanwhile, SDMC announced the end of four clusters namely the Jalan Limbang Cluster in Miri, Bako Hilir Cluster in Kuching, Jalan Lilin Cluster in Miri and Kampung Semerah Padi Phase 1 Cluster in Kuching after they did not record any new positive cases in the last 28 days.

To date, the state has 94 active clusters with 17 registering a total of 227 new Covid-19 cases.

On top of the list is the Nanga Tada Cluster in Kanowit (83), followed by Mongkos 2 Cluster in Tebedu (37), Kilometer 23 Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster in Kuching (37), Kevok Cluster in Telang Usan (31), Jalan Kidurong Lima Cluster in Bintulu (9), Jalan Masket Cluster in Sebauh (6), Tebakang Dayak Cluster in Serian (4), Banting Cluster in Sri Aman (4), Quadruplex Lapan Enam Cluster in Miri (4), Sungai Parik Cluster in Sri Aman (3), Pekan Tatau Baru Cluster in Tatau (2), Jalan Baru Tatau-Bintulu Cluster in Tatau (2), Melatai Cluster in Kapit (1), Nanga Sejugam Cluster in Julau (1), Sawai Niah Cluster in Subis (1), Lorong Perlis Empat Cluster in Miri (1) and Jalan Sungai Antu Cluster in Sibu (1).
