PETALING JAYA: Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin has created a new Twitter account after his previous one was deactivated yesterday evening.
The former Johor menteri besar told FMT that the new account, @nordin_khaled, was likely created by his staff.
The Twitter account showed that he joined the social media platform in Dec 2020, with its profile stating “The official account of Umno Malaysia’s vice-president”.
As at the time of writing, the account had only garnered four followers and it is following 18 accounts, mainly news portals and fellow politicians, including Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Najib Razak.
Asked about the deactivation of his previous Twitter account, @khalednordin, Khaled replied: “My staff said it was hacked.”
The account was previously created in May 2009 and had over 112,600 followers. Its deactivation came after reports that Khaled was allegedly following accounts with gay porn content on Twitter yesterday.
However, Khaled had denied such claims, telling The Star that he seldom used Twitter and had directed his staff to “block such accounts” on the site.
He added that the only social media account he was personally in charge of handling was Instagram, while his Facebook and Twitter were handled by his staff.
