The fake message that went viral on social media.
MIRI (July 2): Members of the public here have been advised to follow the appointment date for their Covid-19 vaccination in their MySejahtera app, and not to believe a fake message being circulated in social media claiming that they can get earlier appointments just by simply providing their information to a third party.
Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak (Ukas) Miri in a statement today confirmed that the message, which has been circulated in various social media platform, was fake.
“The announcement about available vaccine slots being offered at Dewan Dato’ Lee Teck Fook Vaccination Centre (PPV) that has gone viral is fake. Please stop spreading it.
“The vaccines are only given out according to appointment date in MySejahtera app,” said the statement.
It also warned that spreading of fake information through short messages service (SMS) or on social media is an offence under Section 211 and 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
“Those found guilty can be fined not exceeding RM50,000 or jailed up to one year or both,” is said.
The fake message stated that there were plenty of available slots for Covid-19 vaccination at at Dewan Dato’ Lee Teck Fook PPV.
It said members of the public who wish to take up the slots to submit their names and information to a number provided in the message.
