Twitter and Facebook Suspends Trump’s Account In Response To The U.S Capitol Mob Attack

In a yet colourful chapter of Donald Trump’s presidency, the U.S Capitol in Washington was stormed by his supporters earlier today in an attempt to disrupt the U.S Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the recent election. The raid took place towards the tail end of the Save America rally whereby the outgoing president continues to double down on his election fraud claim and has urged supporters to march to the Capitol.

Soon after, Twitter decided to remove several of Trump’s tweets during the rally and locked his account for 12 hours. In addition to that, the company also threaten to permanently ban Trump if he continues to break Twitter’s policy.

One of the tweets contained a video that has also made its way to Facebook and YouTube who then decided to remove it as well. On top of that, Facebook and Instagram have since blocked Trump from posting anything on their platform for 24 hours.

In a joint blog post by two of Facebook’s VP, Guy Rosen and Monika Bickert, the social media platform further revealed that it is now actively searching and removing contents that support the mob attack on the Capitol. The company will also deploy a new label to indicate that Joe Biden’s victory has been certified on all posts that tried to say otherwise.
