KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecution in the forfeiture case against Low Taek Jho’s father, Larry, is inviting any interested parties to contest RM48.9 million seized for the purposes of 1MDB investigations.
Deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin told High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan today the prosecution had sent a notice seeking the court’s approval to publish the third party’s notice in the federal gazette.
“In the meantime, we would like to make some amendments to our forfeiture application by including locations of banks where his accounts are,” she said.
Zaini fixed Jan 22 for mention, pending the issuance of the third party notice and the prosecution’s amendments.
The court had previously granted the prosecution’s bid to forfeit RM48.9 million in Larry’s seven bank accounts, on grounds that the funds were proceeds from unlawful activities as stipulated under Section 56 (2) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
The prosecution later filed amendments to the forfeiture notice, as there were slight differences from the original notice over the name of the banks and the amounts involved.
No third parties have come forward to contest the seized RM48.9 million and Larry was not represented in court. It has been reported that authorities have tried to locate Larry, his wife Goh Gaik Ewe and Jho Low for over a year to assist in investigations into 1MDB’s affairs.
