Thai man fires shotgun, flees with quarantined wife and son

Police managed to track down the man at a poultry farm and he was arrested later on Tuesday afternoon.

BANGKOK (June 30): A man who was stopped from visiting his wife and 9-year-old son at a state alternative quarantine (ASQ) hotel in Ao Nang in Krabi, Thailand fired a gunshot and went straight up to their room before all three fled the hotel in his car.

The Nation reported the incident on Tuesday began when the man came to visit his wife and son who were undergoing quarantine at the hotel, which is used as ASQ for individuals who were at risk for exposure to Covid-19, at 7 am (local time) on Tuesday.

He is said to have brought a durian for the wife and son, but a security guard on duty turned down his request as all visitors and durians not permitted in the hotel premises.

The enraged man left the hotel lobby and returned about 15 minutes later and attempted to enter the lift where a staff tried to stop him, this is when he brandished a handgun and fired a shot hitting a window scaring the employees who were there.

However, police managed to track down the man at a poultry farm and he was arrested later on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect allegedly fired a shot at a worker at the farm before the arrest. The worker was rushed to hospital and he is reported in a stable condition.

Police also confiscated a .38 revolver with five bullets and an 11mm handgun with six bullets, The Nation reported. – Bernama
