KUCHING (June 25): Sarawak is enforcing an entry ban on individuals who have been in Labuan for a period of 21 days, except for emergencies, to curb the spread of Covid-19 Delta B.1.617.2 variant to the state.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said this ban applies to both Malaysians and non-Malaysians and if they need to enter Sarawak in case of emergency, they must apply for permission to enter from the committee.

“Those from other states in the country who need to enter Sarawak must show their RT-PCR negative test results. These tests must be taken three days prior to their entry,” said SDMC in its daily update today.

While they must apply through the EnterSarawak system, they will also be isolated for 14 days at the designated quarantine centre.

During the mandatory quarantine period, they will have the RT-PCR test taken on the 10th day.

They must also monitor themselves for at least seven days after being issued the quarantine release order.

They are also required to have their swab test taken at the nearest healthcare facility should they experience symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, loss of appetite, breathing difficulties, headache and fatigue.

SDMC said the entry ban on individuals from Labuan takes effect immediately while the regulations imposed on those entering from other states will come into effect on June 28.

“Such latest travel regulations and the mandatory quarantine period are decided based on risk assessments carried out from time to time.

“These decisions are pivotal to stop the Covid-19 spread to Sarawak especially with cases involving Variant of Concern (VOC) and Variant of Interest (VOI) which transmission is rapid and has higher risk of fatality,” added the committee.
