BESUT: A counselling unit at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia has offered pyschosocial assistance to a man who built 11 speed bumps beside his house because of speeding vehicles.

Nor Muhamad Roslam, 40, captured national attention in news reports about his action of building 11 speed bumps on the road by the side of his house Kampung Padang Luas, Jertih.

He claimed that he was forced into doing it because he could not stand the behaviour of some road users who drove so fast that it stressed him out. The issue was resolved when he got rid of all the speed bumps on Jan 13 after being advised by the police to do so.

UKM senior lecturer, Dr Nazirah Hassan said she had contacted Nor Muhamad Roslam to inform him of their offer of assistance.

“After we talked on the phone, Nor Muhamad Roslam admitted that he might have mental issues, but did not know how or where to seek help…that’s why he agreed to accept our assistance,” she said.

Nazirah said several sessions would be conducted beginning next week and for a start, she would determine Nor Muhamad Roslam’s psychological status.

“A complete evaluation to determine the level of his mental health will be done, also to consider whether his behaviour is influenced by his social surroundings, and we will see if there were elements of bullying that might have occurred.

She said the public should not pass judgement hastily on Nor Muhamad Roslam’s actions as he might have mental issues. “Those with such issues require support and attention from the people around them,” she said.
