Cyberpunk 2077 is a buggy mess, especially on the original last generation consoles. Developer CD Projekt Red released a statement that it will be honouring refund requests. Digital purchases should also go to their respective storefronts for the refund process. But it looks like it’s not something that CDPR can actually guarantee. Sony Interactive Entertainment looks to be denying a lot of such refund requests for the game.
Frustrated gamers are venting on Twitter their failed attempts at getting a refund for their copy of Cyberpunk 2077. And it’s a similar pattern through them all. Essentially, SIE is denying refunds based on the fact that the game has been downloaded. The exception here is “unless the content is faulty”, which is about as broad and unclear as a statement can be.
So today’s update, Sony support refused another refund for #Cyberpunk2077. They said even if the devs say refund it, they won’t do it. Lied about the game not being broken and lied about what CDPR stated. Tl:dr you are stuck with a broken game, wait til patched. Some support. pic.twitter.com/MsyI11VCGO

@CyberpunkGame So, CD Projekt Red came through and said they’d agree to refunds for PS4 owners.
Sony? Not so much. If you downloaded it, they will not refund the title. pic.twitter.com/TUutotHl3b

In addition to that, the promise of a Cyberpunk 2077 refund is one that CDPR cannot keep, as admitted by the company itself. In an emergency board meeting, Michał Nowakowski, SVP of business development at CDPR, said that refunds are still dependent on existing policies by both Sony and Microsoft.

It’s a messy situation, to say the least. And it all runs counter to what was happening just earlier this week, when people are reporting success with getting their PS4 copies of Cyberpunk 2077. Things seemingly flipped after the official refund statement by CDPR. Then there’s the opacity and inconsistency of SIE’s refunds making things even more confusing.
