KUCHING (June 8): Social interaction among residents of a longhouse in Kampung Lubok Mulong has resulted in the Health Department declaring a new Covid-19 cluster in Beluru.

The State Disaster Management Committee said the community cluster has been named the Ulu Teru Cluster.

“A total of 468 individuals were screened, where 46 cases were found positive, 360 cases negative, and 62 cases are still awaiting laboratory results.

“All positive cases were referred to Miri Hospital and admitted to Miri Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Miri District,” SDMC said in a statement today.

The Health Department also declared the end of three clusters after they did not record any new cases in the last 28 days.

They are the Jalan Disa Cluster in Sibu, Sains Bakam Cluster in Miri, and Sungai Nirai Cluster in Selangau.

The Jalan Disa Cluster, which was declared on April 17, was a community cluster involving a religious primary school, which recorded a cumulative total of 137 positive cases out of 336 individuals screened.

The Sains Bakam Cluster, which was declared on April 30, involved a secondary school where the index case was a 15-year-old student. A total of 658 individuals were screened, of which 28 were found positive.

The Sungai Nirai Cluster was a community cluster declared on May 1 involving a longhouse, with the index case being a 25-year-old expectant mother with symptoms. A total of 80 individuals were screened, of which 55 were found positive. There was one death related to this cluster.

SDMC said there are currently 75 active clusters in the state.

“A total of 13 clusters have recorded 146 new cases for the day, while 62 clusters did not record any,” added the committee.
