MIRI (June 22): Seven additional private clinics here have been approved by ProtectHealth as Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPVs).

Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC) minister in-charge Datuk Lee Kim Shin said having the additional private clinics would help to increase the pace of vaccination in the division.

“With the additional clinics as PPVs, there are now a total of 10 private clinics, allowing the vaccination capacity to increase.

“It is hoped that ProtectHealth can approve more private clinics to be part of the immunisation programme, so that Sarawak can achieve herd immunity of 80 per cent by end of August,” he said.

The Minister of Transport, who inspected Eastwood Valley and Curtin University Hall PPVs today, requested the managements of both premises to add more chairs, canopies, and other facilities to provide a more conducive vaccination environment for the public.

“The capacity of PPV Eastwood Valley has increased to 2,500 doses per day from 1,000 and PPV Curtin University Hall has capacity of 1,500 doses per day. The drastic increase in number has resulted in more people turning up at these centres.

“In view of this issue, it is crucial to increase the facilities, so that members of the public could comply with the standard operating procedure in maintaining social distancing,” said Lee.
