Senate to debate motion on illegal meat cartel

A senator says the Jakim logo is being used by the illegal meat cartel to deceive the people.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Negara will debate the issue of illegal meat cartels after its president, Rais Yatim, ruled that it met the three conditions set by the house.

Rais said the conditions were that the issue was specific, of public interest and urgent.

He said the senators would be given 30 minutes to debate the issue and the government would be given the same amount of time to respond.

“I have studied the matter. Firstly, it is right, the matter is specific, and secondly, it is of public interest and in need of urgent action,” he said.

Earlier, Asmak Husin proposed a motion on an illegal meat cartel, saying the Jakim logo was being used with the intention to deceive the people.
