KUCHING (June 28): A 57-year-old woman who died after receiving her Covid-19 vaccination in Miri did not pass away from severe reactions, or anaphylaxis, to the vaccine as speculated, said Sarawak Health Director Dato Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed.

In a statement today, he said that the incident had received public attention after the woman passed away at Miri Hospital after receiving a Covid-19 vaccine dose on June 26.

“After a post-mortem was carried out on the deceased on June 27, early investigation found signs of a heart attack suffered by the deceased two or three days before she passed away,” he said.

Dr Mohamed Sapian added that the post-mortem report indicated no signs of anaphylaxis had been experienced by the deceased after being administered the vaccine dose.

“The case is still under investigation at Miri Hospital and we are waiting for the results from the tests conducted,” he stated.

Dr Mohamed Sapian said that the deceased suffered from a history of comorbidities such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

“After initial screening and informed consent was given, she was administered with a vaccine dose on June 26 at about 9.20am at Miri Hospital’s public vaccination centre,” he said.

After being monitored at the monitoring zone post-vaccination, Dr Mohamed Sapian said that she soon complained of feeling nauseous, cold and had vomited at around 9.30am.

“She was immediately given treatment at the resuscitation zone by emergency medical experts. However, her condition soon deteriorated before she was referred to the Miri Hospital emergency treatment unit for further treatment.

“Emergency treatment was administered continuously for 40 minutes but she was pronounced dead at 11.10am,” he said.

He also urged and advised the public not to speculate about the case and only to obtain official information from trusted sources.
