Sarawak Health Dept declares two new workplace clusters, one new community cluster

KUCHING (Aug 23): The Sarawak Health Department has declared three new Covid-19 clusters in the state, one of which is a workplace cluster at a healthcare facility in Sri Aman.

In its daily Covid-19 update, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said for the Jalan Hospital Cluster, a total of 217 people have been screened so far with 17 positive, 197 negative, and four others are still awaiting laboratory results.

Those who tested positive have been admitted to Sri Aman Hospital and Sri Aman district quarantine and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC).

The other workplace cluster was declared in Subis, dubbed the Mas Sawai Cluster.

SDMC said this cluster involves a palm oil plantation under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

“A total of 295 individuals were screened, of which 15 were found positive, including nine new cases for today. Another 280 are still awaiting lab results,” the committee said, adding that all positive cases have been admitted to Miri Hospital and PKRC.

The new community cluster involves a longhouse in Nansang Tugong, Pakan, Sarikei.

“Known as Nansang Tugong Cluster, a total of 62 individuals have been screened out of which 51 were found positive including 45 new cases recorded today. Another 11 were negative,” said SDMC.

Those who tested positive have been admitted to Sarikei Hospital and PKRC.

SDMC also announced the end of five clusters today after no new cases were reported from them in the last 28 days.

They were the Salak Land Cluster in Kuching, Bukit Tinggi Cluster in Meradong, Pagar Satok Cluster in Kuching, Ulu Senulau Cluster in Saratok, and Gom Tujuh Cluster in Bintulu.

The state currently has 117 active clusters, with 22 reporting 228 new Covid-19 cases, including from two of the new clusters declared today.

The other clusters that recorded new positive cases were Bungey 2 (112), Long Urun (44), Kampung Goebilt (22), Kampung Bintawa Hilir (9), Kampung Lintang Baru (9), Kampung Lintang Baru (9), Kampung Quop (4), Kandis Pantu (4), Kampung Bintawa Tengah (3), Long Maktub (3), Kampung Muara Tebas 2 (3), Semada (3), Nanga Puti (3), Jalan Lembah Hijau (2), Jalan Kemena Industry Estate 38 (2), Sungai Menok (2), Kampung Git (1), Sungai Serindak (1), Lorong Temenggung Haji Gobil (1), and Kampung Matang Lot (1).
