Sarawak cops issue 12 SOP violation compounds for loitering past midnight

KUCHING (June 30): Sarawak police have issued 12 compounds within the last 24 hours for loitering in public places past midnight, topping the list of most standard operating procedures(SOP) offences as of today.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement, this was followed by not wearing face masks with nine compounds, and congregating while not observing physical distancing with four compounds.

All in all, the police have issued a total of 33 compounds, Kuching (19), Bintulu (4), Miri (3), Sibu (3), Kota Samarahan (2) and Lawas (2) for violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

The other offences were leaving quarantine centres without permission (3), leaving Enforced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area without permission (2), premises operating with capacity exceeding 30 per cent (2) and not checking in via MySejahtera (1).

“The total number of compounds issued since the Movement Control Order was implemented in March 18, 2020 to-date was 8,522,” said SDMC.

Over the same period, the Local Government and Housing Ministry issued a total of four compounds – Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (3) and Bintulu Development Authority (1) – for not updating attendance log book or incomplete log book.

This brought the total number of compounds issued by the ministry since Feb 1 to 1,194.

Meanwhile, no premises in Sarawak have been listed in the Health Ministry’s Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) surveillance as of today.
