Sabah to build solar and hydro power plant

KOTA KINABALU: The State’s strategic investment arm, Qhazanah Sabah, has sealed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jaks Solar Power Sdn Bhd (JAKS) to collaborate on the development of solar and hydro power plant in Sabah.

The MoU was inked here on Thursday at Qhazanah Sabah office in Riverson Suite.

Qhazanah Sabah was represented by its chief executive officer Ahmad Rizal Dahli and company secretary Rudy Jaglul. JAKS was represented by its chief executive officer Andy Ang Lam Poah and senior general manager Benedict Ho Kok Keong.

The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Qhazanah Sabah chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Md Salleh Tun Said Keruak and executive director Tuan Haji Mohd Shukor Abdul Mumin.

Salleh stated that the MoU is to enable the company to explore the development of sustainable renewable energy projects in Sabah.

“Sabah is a fast-developing state with high demand of energy. This collaboration is a window opportunity for both companies to explore the possibilities in developing renewable energy and to boost the economic growth,” he said.

During the event, Mohd Shukor in his welcoming remarks said the company is looking forward to this collaboration to achieve the aspiration of Sabah Maju Jaya.

Qhazanah Sabah (formerly known as Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd) has grown to become the State’s premier government-linked company with investments from various sectors nationwide.

Since its establishment in 1995, the company has consistently paid total dividend of over RM200 million and is currently exploring new business ventures with the objectives to function as a catalyst to drive Sabah’s economic development and to further diversify the State budget.

Meanwhile, Jaks Solar Power Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of JAKS Resources Berhad which is a group of companies primarily involved in water related project such as pipe laying works, construction of reservoir, intake, treatment plant and dam.

Also present were Qhazanah Sabah director Datuk Dr Johnson Tee and management of Qhazanah Sabah.
