Bung
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) has welcomed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s call to reconvene Parliament as soon as possible.
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, said that the King’s decision showed that the latter had placed the parliamentary democracy system at a high level.
Bung, who is also Kinabatangan member of parliament, said that the King had prioritised the principle of constitutional supremacy.
The Deputy Chief Minister opined that the approach taken by the Malay Rulers would preserve the role of check and balance played by the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.
“Every branch of the country’s democratic system, including the executive branch of the Malaysian government, must abide by the principle of constitutional supremacy,” said Bung in a statement on Thursday.
The State Works Minister had also advised the MPs to refrain from playing with political ideologies.
He called on all MPs, regardless of allegiance, to return to Parliament and play their role.
“This is the time to restore the voices of the people,” he stressed.
Phoong
Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe also welcomed the King’s views on this matter while hoping that state assembly sittings can proceed as well.
He said the King’s decision to allow Parliament to sit shows His Majesty’s respect and emphasis on parliamentary democracy.
“I urge the state governments to follow suit by allowing state assemblies to sit with strict SOPs, ” he said.
Phoong said with state assembly sittings, leaders will be able to talk about pressing issues involving the people, the economy and the Covid-19 pandemic.
