KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has asked the Federal Government to channel the additional Sinovac vaccines donated by China to Sabah.
He said that the state needs more vaccines in order for it to keep the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) in Sabah running.
The State Works Minister said that Sabah is still lagging behind in terms of its vaccination rate.
He pointed out that the vaccination rate in rural areas is low due to factors such as communication problems and lack of understanding among the villagers.
“The Sinovac is also more suitable to be used in rural areas due to easier storage conditions compared to the Pfizer brand,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
“We need to be ready so that the supply of vaccines is sufficient for the people, especially those in rural areas who are largely unvaccinated,” added the Lamag assemblyman.
Bung made the statement following Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s announcement that the Federal Government would be receiving 500,000 doses of Sinovac’s CoronaVac from China.
