KOTA BELUD: The Federal Government has allocated RM4.9 billion in efforts to solve problems related to floods, drainage and sewerage in Sabah.
According to Minister of Environment and Water Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man during his visit to a flood mitigation project here today, there are about 40 major projects in the state that will be implemented to address these issues.
The projects involve the Ministry of Environment and Water, Water Supply Department (JBA), Sewerage Services Department (JPP) and the Irrigation and Drainage Department.
“Apart from the major projects, we also have small projects to solve drainage problems that are often clogged, which is caused by poor maintainence
“For that, we allocate approximately RM13.36 million for 177 projects involving all flood-prone areas in Sabah,” he said.
He explained that his visit to Sabah was aimed at seeing and finding solutions related to the flood issue, especially in the Kota Belud district.
“Kota Belud is often flooded, especially after the earthquakes few years back.
“So today, along with the Director General of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, senior officials of the ministry have also arrived here today to look at the location of the project, hoping we can find a solution,” he said.
On Friday, Tuan, who is also PAS deputy president had a closed door meeting with party members in Sabah to remind them to help the state government in implementing development agendas in the state.
“I also urged them to contribute their expertise in the state development.
“With the current pandemic and on-going mass vaccination process, we also made it clear that we are supporting this effort in order to protect ourselves from Covid-19,” he said.
