KENINGAU: Police on Wednesday said there was no children and human trafficking in Keningau after a politician claimed a mother allegedly “sold” her three children to hardship.
“There were no issues or offenses related to selling children or human trafficking in Keningau.
“The police are requesting certain parties not to issue any false statements without referring to the police,”
said Keningau police chief DSP Shahrudin Mat Husain in a statement on Wednesday.
Shahrudin said police had arrested a woman here on June 11, believed to be a drug addict following her
husband’s arrest on May 22 for a similar offence.
The woman’s husband was arrested first on May 22 for a drug offence, and the court allowed him RM2,500
bail and two sureties.
“One man was arrested by the police on May 22 in the Keningau town for drug possession and abuse, and
investigated under Section 12 (2)/15 (a) (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“An investigation was conducted and the man was charged in court under Section 12 (2)/15 (a) (1) of the
Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the court set bail at RM2,500 with two local sureties for both cases.
“On June 11, the wife of the man was detained and the initial investigation also found that his wife was also
involved in drug abuse which was positive for methamphetamine and was investigated under Section 15 (a) (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“During the arrest, two children aged five years and seven months, were with his wife and both children
were handed over to the Social Welfare Department (JKM). The next day, another child of the couple, aged
seven was also handed over to the JKM,” he said.
Prior to the arrest, Shahrudin said the woman was seen borrowing money from the public around Keningau
town to pay for her husband’s bail.
Earlier, Sabah PKR Youth leader Raymond Ahuar issued a statement saying that a mother had allegedly
“sold” her three children for money due to hardship in Keningau.
