[PHOTOS] Hundreds Of Guests Attend Wedding Dinner Of Ku Nan’s Son In Putrajaya

It looks like the drive-through wedding reception in front of the Palace of Justice, Putrajaya organised by Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for his son is not the only thing that upset Malaysians last weekend

Highlighting the issue to SAYS in an email, a reader who wishes to remain anonymous said that most news outlets seem to have failed to report the seated wedding reception of Tengku Adnan’s son, which saw hundreds of guests sitting elbow to elbow without observing physical distancing.

“News [outlets] have only reported on the so-called ‘drive-through’ event. You should check out these posts and publicise them,” said the reader.

In the links the reader provided, a huge crowd can indeed be seen gathering in the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) for Tengku Muhammed Hafiz Tengku Adnan and Oceane Cyril Alagia’s wedding ceremony.

Pahang state executive councillor (exco) member Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin and Dr Tengku Naufal were among the people who uploaded photos of the dinner on Instagram.

Meanwhile, photos of the entire hall reveal that there are at least 50 tables filled with guests during the wedding ceremony

Each round table had at least five guests. It is estimated that the hall had more than 200 attendees.

When asked by an Instagram user whether weddings can be held in a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) area, an attendee replied that the ceremony was held in Putrajaya and they did “follow SOP”.

Although the National Security Council (MKN) had on 7 December listed Putrajaya as a Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) area whereby wedding ceremonies are allowed to be conducted, it is stated that all attendees still have to adhere to SOPs.

The photos found online suggest that Tengku Muhammed’s wedding guests seem to have failed to practise 1m physical distancing at all times.

In comparison to the rules in CMCO areas, venues used for wedding ceremonies can only operate at 50% capacity of the premises in order to comply with physical distancing, while akad nikah ceremonies can only be attended by 30 guests.

The wedding ceremony was live-streamed on YouTube

Malay Mail reported that the Javanese-themed wedding dinner was attended by many prominent UMNO leaders, such as party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, his deputy Datuk Mohamad Hasan, secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, and information chief Shahril Hamdan.

Several Cabinet ministers, such as Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Higher Education Minister Datuk Noraini Ahmad, Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, were also present at the wedding ceremony.

Coconuts KL reported that the guests can be seen wearing face masks and only removing them while eating and taking photographs, but the “guests (were) seated in rows without social distancing”.

Over the weekend, Segambut lawmaker Hannah Yeoh questioned how can a politician charged with corruption host a reception right at the doorsteps of the highest court in Malaysia:

A day after the wedding ceremony, Ku Nan was sentenced to a year’s jail for receiving a RM2 million cheque from a director of a property development company:
