Perak crisis resolved after ‘Top 3’ meeting, says Faizal

Party presidents (from left) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Abdul Hadi Awang and Muhyiddin Yassin have reached a consensus on the Perak political crisis, says Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Perak menteri besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the political crisis in the state has been resolved with a consensus agreed upon by the presidents of Umno, PAS and PPBM.

Faizal, who is also the Tambun MP, said this in the Dewan Rakyat today, referring to a meeting among Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Abdul Hadi Awang and Muhyiddin Yassin at Parliament earlier.

“After being referred to Bagan Datuk (Zahid) and Marang (Hadi), I have been informed that the problem in Perak has been resolved,” he said ahead of the committee stage debate on the budget for the housing and local government ministry.

Meanwhile, in a Twitter post, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said he had also attended a meeting with Zahid and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa.

He said he had managed to chat with Hadi and PAS secretary-general Takyuddin Hassan before the three presidents met today.

“I hope the Perak issue is resolved,” he said, adding that he was confident the three presidents would be able to reach a consensus on the matter.

Perak has been without a menteri besar following Faizal’s resignation on Saturday, after he lost the confidence of the state assembly.

Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Shah had met with various leaders at Istana Kinta yesterday, including Zahid, state Umno chairman Saarani Mohamad and three Pakatan Harapan leaders.

After his audience with the sultan, Zahid claimed the party’s menteri besar candidate had sufficient support to form the new government as PAS and PPBM had agreed to back the candidate.
