KUALA LUMPUR: The Perak menteri besar crisis is over, claims Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer Hishammuddin Hussein.

Speaking to reporters after a BN Supreme Council meeting here tonight, the foreign minister said the latest developments in Perak were “not discussed in detail today”.

“I think the Perak issue has run its course. You’ll have to wait and see what comes out from the leadership of each party,” he told reporters outside the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

When questioned about BN’s stance on PAS, Hishamuddin briefly said: “You’ll have to ask our president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi).”

He added that the meeting tonight was nothing out of the ordinary, with the topics of discussion being the direction taken by each component party and their preparations for the next general election (GE15).

MIC president S Vigneswaran responded in a similar manner, saying it was just the usual monthly meet-up.

“We talked about the current situation going on, not (about) Perak. Just a normal meeting,” he said briefly.

Among those seen attending tonight’s meeting were BN chairman and Umno president Zahid, Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid, BN secretary-general Annuar Musa and deputy president Dr Mah Hang Soon.

The Muafakat Nasional Consultative Council is set to meet tomorrow, according to a tweet from Annuar.

“Negotiations are always better, (and) the Perikatan Nasional presidential council should perhaps also meet,” he had said.

“As comrades, (let’s) resolve this in the best possible way. When we are strong together, we win together…Insyaallah (God willing).”

Perak still does not have a menteri besar following the resignation of PPBM deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu after he was ousted through a vote of confidence in the state assembly last Friday.

Faizal was defeated 48 votes to 10, with one abstention.
