MIRI (July 11): The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has been doing a better job in tackling Covid-19 pandemic in the state, says Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDS Baru) president Bobby William.

He said the daily Covid-19 cases in the state in the past week had shown significant improvement compared to that in previous months when over 500 cases were reported daily.

“We must acknowledge SDMC hard work in tackling the Covid-19 situation in the state. The cases are not as many now, thanks to the committee’s fast action and the people’s compliance towards the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” he said when met yesterday.

He, nevertheless, said the committee and agencies under them such as Ministry of Health (MoH) should not relax the Covid-19 SOP to prevent another surge of cases.

“We must continue with the current SOP until the situation has improved greatly.

“The quarantine SOP for those coming into Sarawak must also not be relaxed, especially now with the Delta, Beta and Theta variants detected in the state,” Bobby said.

On another note, Bobby hoped that Sarawak would be able to achieve at least 80 per cent of its population above 18 fully vaccinated by end of August.
