MIRI (June 9): Essential service workers need only produce their employment passes at roadblocks, set up under the Movement Control Order (MCO), within the district, said Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

However, the Miri Disaster Management Committee (MDMC) minister in charge said those travelling inter-district would still need to apply for a police permit.

Lee said this in a press statement to clarify confusion on the need to produce a permission letter from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) or police permit at roadblocks during the MCO.

According to him, the State Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) MCO standard operating procedures (SOP) clearly showed there is no need for the commercial and services sector as well as food chain related sectors to apply for Miti’s Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0 permission letter to operate throughout the MCO from June 1-14.

“I hoped this explanation will clear the air and the people should not have any doubt on this matter.

“The police are also aware of this requirement when carrying out the roadblocks throughout the MCO period,” Lee said.

The statement added industries and sectors not listed as essential services can submit a special permission application to SDMC for consideration.

MDMC also reminded sectors allowed to operate to fully comply with all the SOPs set to combat the spread of Covid-19.
