KUCHING (June 29): Night clubs, pubs, cinemas and karaoke (including family karaoke outlets) are among entertainment activities listed under the negative list and must remain closed during the National Recovery Plan (NRP) Phase One in Sarawak effective today.
According to the updated standard operating procedures (SOP) released by the National Security Council (NSC), other services, economic, or business activities under the negative list are gaming and lottery outlets and casinos, furniture shops, sports goods shops, salons or barber shops, car wash centres, jewellery stores, vehicle accessory shops, clothes, fashion and accessory shops, toy shops, flower shops and nurseries and cybercafes.
Also in the negative list and not allowed to open are spas, reflexology and massage centres, wellness centres, beauty salons, pedicure and manicure, and gymnasiums and any premises or studio which are used for yoga, zumba and similar activities.
The SOPs for the NRP Phase One in Sarawak also disallow social activities such ‘kenduri’, ‘akad nikah’, wedding and engagement ceremonies, receptions, birthday parties, reunion, retreat and other related social events.
“Physical meetings for sectors apart from government for official or work purpose are not permitted. It is encouraged that meetings are implemented through video conference.
“The organising of seminars, workshops, courses, training, conferences or talks which are done physically or face to face is also not allowed,” said the SOP.
It added corporate events and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) are also not allowed during the NRP Phase One in Sarawak.
On another matter, it stated kindergartens, childcare centres, and care centres for the disabled and elderly can operate upon approval given by the state’s Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Children Development.
It however cautioned parents not to send their children to such centres if they or their children experience symptoms such as fever, cough, flu or diarrhoea, or any family member who is a Person Under Surveillance (PUS).
As for education sector, it said opening of schools, higher learning institutions and skills training institutions are dependent on any decision reached by the Ministry of Education.
As for religious activities at houses of worships, it said this would be dependent on the SOP and circular released by Sarawak Islamic Council and Unit for Other Religions.
