KOTA KINABALU: Nine new communication towers under the national digital infrastructure plan, Jalinan Digital Negara (Jendela) in Kudat have been fully operational since June 15, benefiting several villages in the area.
Implemented under the Universal Service Provision (PPS) programme, the towers are expected to serve 6,520 population, at the same time transforming the livelihood of local community in facing the digital era.
According to a statement by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on Wednesday, eight of the towers are located in Kudat district namely Kg Kubatang, Kg Lodung, Kg Indarason Laut, Kg Rondomon, Kg Membatu, Kg Inukiran, Kg Panikuan and Kg Toporoi.
Another one is in Kg Kabatasan of Pitas district.
It is also revealed that 13 more towers are currently under construction in the same constituency, which are expected to be completed in stages by December 2021.
With the addition of communication towers in Kudat, it will make it easier for local residents to carry out various daily affairs such as online learning, work from home and communication matters.
In addition, better internet connectivity will also help improve the socio-economy of the people in the area through various economic activities that can be done online more smoothly.
