Microsoft Flight Simulator To Receive VR Support In Late December For Free

Microsoft and Asobo Studio have announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator will be getting VR support in late December as a free update for all users. The highly anticipated add-on feature to the game was initially unveiled by the game’s developer during a live stream Q&A session on Twitch last week, which also detailed its development roadmap of upcoming updates.

Asobo added that VR support will be available to all existing VR headsets in the market including the HTC Vive, Valve Index, and so on. It was previously revealed that both the developer and Microsoft originally planned the add-on to be a timed exclusive for the latter’s Window Mixed Reality headsets, but this is no longer the case.

“We are going to open VR for everyone,” said Asobo executive producer Martial Bossard during the live stream. “It will also be open to all devices, including the Oculus family, Valve family, really every family of headset are going to be supported there.” He added that the game’s full experience and its menus will work seamlessly in VR mode, therefore allowing players to enjoy the simulation entirely without having to take off their headsets.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Free VR Support Update Late December

According to the provided development roadmap, fans of Microsoft Flight Simulator will also be expecting more content to arrive as soon as early next year. Asobo reveals that the next update, which will arrive on 26 January 2021, will enhance the flying experience over the in-game UK region by adding new landmarks and points of interest, as well as new challenges to complete.

For those looking forward to diving into Flight Simulator in VR, the update will land (no pun intended) on 22 December 2020. For your reference, the game is available in Steam at RM234 for the standard edition, while its Deluxe and Premium bundles are priced at RM350 and RM465 respectively.
