KUCHING (June 13): The Kuching district police have issued a total of 216 compounds worth RM569,000 against those who have violated the Movement Control Order standard operating procedures (SOP) between June 1 and 11.

Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement last night said a total of 162,890 individuals were checked during the same period.

“Police have also arrested one individual for violating the SOP,” added Ahsmon.

According to him, a total of 134,639 vehicles were checked at the roadblocks which saw a total of 388 vehicles being asked to turn back for failing to provide valid reasons for their travel.

He said the Kuching district police have also received a total of 7,672 applications for the inter-district travel permit between June 1 and 11.

“So far, we have only approved a total of 7,012 permits while 430 applications were rejected,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ahsmon urged the public to comply to the SOP as a way to break the infection chain of the Covid-19 in the community.

“I hope that everyone will cooperate and play their role holistically by practising the new normal,” he added.

With the extension of the MCO until June 28, Ahsmon said the police will re-strategise by beefing up their SOP compliance teams.

“The district police will add another two teams to make it a total of 13 teams who will go conduct checks at business premises and neighbourhoods,” he added.
