LUNDU (March 3): Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice president Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong is confident that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will win all eight Bidayuh seats in the 12th state election.
Speaking to reporters after handing over a minor rural grant (MRP) cheque for the Opar state constituency area at the Kampung Bitokan 1 Hall here today, Manyin said the Bidayuh community has no better option than voting for GPS.
“We Bidayuhs are a minority, which is only eight per cent of the total population in this state. If we all from Opar, Tasik Biru, Serembu, Tarat, Kedup, Mambong, Bukit Semuja and Tebedu do not support GPS and become the opposition, GPS will still win and form a government.
“So who will lose out? Still the Bidayuhs. As a minority, we have no choice and must be in government,” he said.
In citing Opar state constituency as an example, Manyin said the area which is currently held by the opposition, is facing difficulty to obtain development funds.
Therefore, he urged Bidayuhs to vote for the GPS candidate by choosing the GPS logo in the coming state election.
“No matter how smart the candidate is, it is not easy if he is not representing GPS. So don’t look at the candidate’s face, but look for the GPS logo,” Manyin stressed.
“If Opar falls to the opposition again (in the coming state election), this area will be isolated because I believe GPS will reform the government with the full support of the Malays, Melanaus and at least 80 percent of the Dayaks,” he said.
Earlier, Manyin, who is also the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research, presented 97 MRP grant cheques worth RM1.2 million to the representatives in Opar state constituency.
The grant is from the state government, approved by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari for development purposes in the Opar state constituency.
Present were Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and Lundu District Officer Gustian Durani.
