SIBU (June 16): A man failed to appear in a Magistrates’ Court here today to face a drug trafficking charge because he tested positive for Covid-19.
Ho Wee Hong, 49, who is undergoing treatment at Sibu Hospital, was charged together with Chinese national Xiong Xiao Qing.
The two accused are accused of trafficking methamphetamine weighing 187.15 grams on June 8, 2021, at around 11.10am in a house at Lorong 8, Jalan Lada.
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same Act read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Section 39B provides for a death sentence or life imprisonment and caning upon conviction.
Drug trafficking is a non-bailable offence.
Xiong is to appear in court again on Aug 16 for further mention of the case.
