KUCHING (July 11): A 33-year-old male suspect was arrested at a sundry shop in Kampung Kopit, Siniawan for allegedly selling illegal lottery tickets around 5.30pm yesterday.
Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said police also seized a handphone, cash and a piece of paper which is believed to be containing betting numbers.
“The raid was conducted by the district’s Criminal Investigations Department under Ops Dadu Khas,” said Poge in a statement today.
He added that the suspect do not have a past criminal record and is currently being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
In a separate case, a 17-year-old female suspect was also arrested at a sundry shop in Mile 6 Jalan Matang for allegedly selling online gambling top-ups yesterday (July 10).
The Padawan district police who raided the shop based on a tip-off also seized a handphone and cash totalling to RM125 from the suspect.
Police also revealed that the suspect admitted that she was selling the online gambling top-ups at the premises.
The suspect is also currently being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
If found guilty, an offender could face a maximum punishment of RM200,000 fine or five years of imprisonment.
