BINTULU (July 10): Police have arrested the key suspect of the murder of a 40-year-old Indonesian, said to have occurred at a farmhouse in an oil palm plantation in Sebauh on July 6.
Bintulu District police Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect, also an Indonesian, was apprehended on Thursday (July 8) during surveillance over the farmhouse.
“Police also confiscated a knife, which could have been used by the murder suspect.
“We also seized a shirt, a pair of shorts and a motorcycle belonging to the suspect as evidence to facilitate the investigation,” said Zuklipli in a press conference on Friday.
Initial investigation into the case revealed that the suspect had handed over RM150 to the victim to buy motorcycle spare-parts, said the district police chief.
“After waiting for a few days, the suspect came to see the victim, asking about the spare-parts that the latter was supposed to buy.
“An argument later broke out, and escalated to the victim being stabbed to death,” he elaborated.
Zulkipli said the key suspect, together with eight others who had been nabbed earlier in connection with the case, would remain in police detention until this July 21 to facilitate the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
All the suspects would also be investigated under Section 6(1 )(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for overstaying without valid travel documents, he added.
