Janang: National Recovery Plan framework will allow business sector to better strategise

Datuk Janang Bungsu

KUCHING (June 16): The business sector can now better plan for recovery with the National Recovery Plan (NRP) framework in place, said Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak chairman Datuk Janang Bungsu.

When commenting on the NRP announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday, he said the first three months are very crucial for the government and private sectors, as well as public to work together towards the success of the National Immunisation Programme in order to achieve the targeted full reopening of the economy.

“We cannot achieve the target of economic opening if this crucial stage is not achieved. Hopefully by end of June, the Covid-19 cases can be brought down to below 4,000, which is achievable if all parties are committed to fulfil the tasks given to them making sure vaccines are deliverable and distribution and execution are on time,” he said today.

Janang said he hoped more from the private sector would offer assistance.

As industries are a major contributor to the surge in Covid-19 cases of late, he said vaccinating workers must be expedited.

“The bigger organisations should be extending help to the government and smaller groups, while the public gives full cooperation towards this effort,” he said.

On community cases following the Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Gawai celebrations, he said lessons should have been learnt as Hari Raya Aidiladha will be celebrated next month.

Muhyiddin had announced a four-phase NRP framework aimed at guiding the country back to normalcy.

Each of the four consecutive phases, expected to end by December 2021, would be based on the fulfilling of three main indicators — total number of Covid-19 positive daily cases; ICU bed utilisation of ICU; and percentage of population completing two vaccine doses.
