PETALING JAYA: Rohingya organisations in Malaysia have rejected a news report alleging that a Rohingya outfit based in the country was planning a terror attack in several cities in India.
The Coalition of Rohingya Organisations in Malaysia also expressed concern that the allegations would make the Rohingya community even more vulnerable.
Yesterday, the Times of India newspaper reported that Indian intelligence agencies are believed to have intercepted financial transactions suggesting that a Malaysia-based Rohingya outfit may be in an advanced stage of orchestrating a terror strike in that country.
The group is said to be led by a woman.
But the Rohingya coalition said the Rohingya refugees in Malaysia merely possessed documents issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and there was no possibility of the alleged financial transactions being carried out “by any means”.
The coalition said the accusations were absolutely untrue and baseless.
It called for stern action by Malaysian authorities against those involved in terrorism or who spread conspiracies to create unrest.
The Times of India said a group trained in Myanmar may attempt a strike in an Indian city in the next few weeks. The likely targets mentioned were Ayodhya, Bodhgaya, Srinagar and in Punjab.
The newspaper quoted an intelligence document as stating that a series of suspicious India-centric transactions to the tune of more than RM820,000 (15 million Indian rupees) had been traced to a Kuala Lumpur-based Rohingya leader and others.
