IKEA To Stop Producing Physical Catalogue After 70 Years

It is one of the most recognisable brands all over the world but the name IKEA may have a different meaning to different people. You may know the brand by its long line of furniture offerings, massive outlets, and meatballs but if you have been a fan of its annual catalogue, then this is massive news for you.

The company today has announced it has decided to stop producing physical catalogues. First released in 1951, 200 million copies have been distributed in more than 50 markets throughout the world at its peak in 2016 in which it was made available in 69 different versions with 32 different languages.

The company cited changes within media consumption and customer behaviours through the arrival of the digital era was the reason behind the decision. Furthermore, IKEA also pointed that this decision goes together with its on-going digital transition which includes 45% increase in global online sales last year and more than four billion visits have also been recorded for its official website.

Not all is lost though as IKEA has planned to release a tribute book for its iconic catalogue next year. Not only that, you can always visit the full digital collection of IKEA Catalogue that includes the original 1951 catalogue (as well as its 1950’s predecessor) up to the latest 2021 release at IKEA Museum right here.
