GOF’s Tiger Platoon’s expertise utilised to hunt down remaining two Puncak Borneo prison escapees

KUCHING (July 5): The expertise of the General Operations Force’s (GOF) Tiger Platoon has been used utilised in the operation to track and hunt down the remaining two men who escaped from remand at the Puncak Borneo Prison recently.

Sarawak GOF commander SAC Saini Bongkek today who said the team had been mobilised to assist the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (Sarawak IPK) team to locate the two detainees in the nearby forest area as the search for the duo enters its fifth day today.

“For this operation, we have instructed the Tiger Platoon team to track and trace the duo based on their jungle skills throughout the operation,” he told reporters during a press conference at the Sarawak PGA Headquarters at Batu Kawah.

The two escaped detainees are identified as Mohamad Fikrry Azzarudin Abdullah, 26, from Sibu who is remanded for housebreaking while Rahmat Simbolan, 38, is an Indonesian who is remanded for drug trafficking.

The duo are among the four suspects managed to escape from a prison transit house during a thunderstorm around 5.10pm on July 1.

They escaped by prying open a grille inside one of the toilets and ran through the prison compound towards a nearby jungle.

There are 59 suspects (including the four) inside the prison transit house then.

A prison patrol team arrested one of the suspects identified as Diveni Bunby from Lundu at a PR1MA housing area in Kampung Sinar Baru at 6.25pm.

The same team arrested another suspect, Bobin Bohan from Jalan Puncak Borneo at one of roads in Kampung Sinar Baru at 10.50pm.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan yesterday said the operation to hunt down the two detainees had focused at the Kampung Quap area yesterday.

The operation to hunt down the suspects was led by Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong who said that as of 7pm last night, the two detainees had not been found.

He explained that the search operation has been extended to a radius of two kilometres yesterday which included the area of Kampung Quap, Puncak Borneo.

“Residents of the village should be alert of any suspicious individuals in their midst,” said Aidil.

The parties involved in the operation are the police from the Padawan district police headquarters, GOF’s Tiger Platoon, K9 unit of the state police headquarters and personnel from the Puncak Borneo Prison.
