KUCHING (July 12): A funeral prayer held recently in Lundu has resulted in a new Covid-19 cluster dubbed the Kampung Kendaie Cluster, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today.

“The latest community cluster involved the villagers of Kampung Kendaie in the Lundu district. The outbreak was caused by a funeral prayer that was held from June 30 to July 6,” said the committee in a statement.

It said 23 individuals from the cluster, including a foreigner, were tested positive for Covid-19, and another 25 individuals were tested negative.

All positive cases have been admitted into the Sarawak General Hospital and a Covid-19 low-risk treatment and quarantine centre (PKRC) in Kuching, the committee said.

Meanwhile, SDMC said the Sungai Penyarai Cluster in Tatau has ended after no new cases were reported for the past 28 days.

The cluster had resulted in a total of 40 positive cases.

“Also, eight of the 100 active Covid-19 clusters in the state have reported 44 new cases today,” SDMC added.
