PETALING JAYA: Four Malaysians were injured, three of them seriously, in a horror crash on Christmas eve near Balranald, New South Wales.

The three women were flown to Melbourne in critical condition while the fourth victim, a two-year-old girl, escaped with minor injuries and has been handed over to her family.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.50pm on Thursday, after receiving reports that a westbound four-wheel drive had left the road and rolled multiple times.

The driver and two passengers were flown to hospitals in Melbourne, Victoria, while the girl was taken to Balranald Hospital with minor injuries, and is now in the custody of a family member according to hospital staff.

She escaped injuries because she was strapped to a child restraint in the back seat.

The driver was brought to The Alfred hospital, with severe head injuries and is in critical but stable condition.

The two adult passengers, aged 25 and 47, were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and police told the ABC Mildura-Swan Hill that the elder of the two sustained severe injuries, with the younger woman described as being in critical condition.

The Malaysian consul-general in Melbourne Mazita Marzuki told FMT that while her office has not been directly contacted by the two hospitals, they are aware of the case and are in the midst of rendering the appropriate consular assistance.

Officers from the Barrier Police District are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash and are in the midst of their inquiry.
