MIRI (July 10): A store on the second floor of a shop building in Jalan Punang in Lawas was destroyed by fire on Friday evening.
According to Zone 7 Limbang Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Awangku Mohd Hazmin Awang Zainal, they received a distress call at 6.57pm and a team of nine firefighters from the Lawas Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene.
They were led by station chief Zaki Hussin.
“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported that the fire broke out on the top floor of the two-storey shop building and was 70 per cent destroyed,” Awangku said.
He added that firefighters managed to control the fire until it was completely extinguished.
No injuries or casualties were reported and the cause of the fire as well as total losses are still being ascertained.
The operation ended at 9.47pm.
