Ex-MP Nasharudin’s RM3.65 mil CBT, money laundering trial starts April 1

Nasharudin Mat Isa is facing trial for 17 counts of criminal breach of trust and money laundering.

SHAH ALAM: Former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa’s trial for 17 counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering involving RM3.65 million will begin on April 1.

Deputy public prosecutor Allan Suman Pillai said further trial dates before Sessions Court judge Rozilah Salleh have also been fixed in June, July and August.

“The dates were agreed upon when the case was mentioned before Rozilah today,” he told FMT.

Lawyer Mohd Shukri Ahmad Mansor appeared for Nasharudin.

Early last month, the former MP for Yan and Bachok was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on 16 counts of CBT for dishonestly accepting RM321,273.80 in total as salary for being Nassar Foundation chairman between 2015 and 2018.

He remains accused of 14 other counts of CBT and three counts of money laundering totalling over RM3.65 million.

On Oct 19 last year, he had claimed trial to 33 charges of money laundering and CBT amounting to RM4 million.

Nasharudin was PAS deputy president from 2005 to 2013. He was sacked from the Islamist party over statements critical of the party and for being absent from meetings.

He became close to Najib Razak long before the coming together of Umno and PAS, and had accompanied the former prime minister on his visit to Gaza in Palestine.
