MIRI (July 2): Police arrested two men on Monday (June 28) after they were caught with over 4kg of drugs with an estimated street value of RM167,112 during a raid on a house at Jalan Acacia 3, Shang Garden here.
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the suspects were detained by a joint team from the Sarawak police contingent Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) and Miri District NCID at around 4pm.
“During the raid, the team seized five plastic packages bearing the name ‘Guanyinwang’, which contained crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing about 4,642 grams worth RM167,112,” Hakemal told a press conference today (July 2).
A car estimated to be worth RM30,000 was also seized from the suspects.
Hakemal said urine tests on the two suspects, aged 36 and 30, were positive for methamphetamine abuse.
“Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until July 6 for further investigation,” added Hakemal.
The two men are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Section 39B provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and at least 15 strokes of the rotan.
