Don’t travel, Dzukefly urges Selangor residents

Selangor is still a red zone, says the Covid-19 task force chairman.

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Covid-19 Task Force has advised the public to postpone any travel plans of returning back to their hometowns, following the spike of Covid-19 cases in the state.

Its head, Dzulkefly Ahmad said Selangor was still a red zone, with 90% of the new cases yesterday involving the workplace.

“The main reason for the spike in Selangor is the Seruling and Hentian clusters, while the remaining ones are unrelated to clusters or ‘unliked cases’ which occur sporadically in the community.

“It is important for the people of Selangor to resist the urge to return to their hometowns by crossing district or state borders, because they may bring the virus back,” he said in a statement.

The former health minister also introduced a new programme under the state’s Covid-19 task force, in which it would work together with employers to create “internal-bubbles” and restrict movements to curb the spread of the virus in the workplace.

Selangor recorded 829 new infections today, 685 of which were detected from existing clusters and close contact screenings on the ground. On Thursday, there were 1,428 cases, making up more than half of the national total.

The health ministry had said it was expecting the cases in the state to remain high, following widespread screenings for foreing workers currently taking place.
